October 4th, 2011. Centripetal Invests in Optiwind.
Centripetal has invested in Optiwind, a company which has designed an innovative wind energy technology which can address old and new markets at a price which does require subsidies, grants, or tax deductions to be economically viable. Founded in 2007, Optiwind is pioneering a new market in wind energy, placing medium sized wind turbines right where they’re needed most – on site at schools, businesses and government locations. By allowing customers to capture their own clean, renewable power right at their own locations, Optiwind frees customers from the risk of continuously rising grid rates and allows them to refocus all of their resources on what they do best.
In the past, the market for mid-sized, distributed wind turbines was hampered by the fact that existing turbine technologies were better suited to utility grade power output and higher wind conditions. Because people tend to live and work in less windy areas, and have power needs that are less than those of utilities, new technologies needed to be developed to unlock this market potential. That is the role Optiwind has played. By developing an innovative suite of technologies that accelerate existing wind speeds, reduce installation and maintenance costs, and bring turbine sizes in line with what suburban and urban communities will accept, Optiwind has brought wind energy to a whole new world of customers.
